This painted chicken egg is also called pysanka. This is the traditional Ukrainian souvenir presented by people to each other for Easter. Due to the special painting such items obtain also protective properties. For example this pysanka represents an image of a horse that is a symbol of longevity and sound health. The ornament is applied with hot wax, special tool and aniline dyes.
